International seminar with Shihan Koichi Fujii
The project “Discover Aikido” designed to present the life and Aikido style of one of a true master of this martial art, Shihan Masatake Fujita 8th Dan Aikikai Aikido, not only that it opened new doors for Aikido here in Romania, but also made it possible for us to discover some of Fujita`s Sensei friends and students.
Shihan Koichi Fujii who lives in Sapporo (town where Shihan Masatake Fujita spend his childhood and adolescence) and today is the president of the Sapporo Aikido Association is one of these students.
Romanian Aikikai Aikido Foundation had the pleasure to organize an international seminar with Koichi Fujii Shihan 7th Dan Aikikai Aikido, in Cluj Napoca between the 25th and 28th of November.
For those of you who did not had the pleasure to participate at one of Shihan Fujita practice, but came at this seminar, with a little bit of imagination will be able to visualize him, because like Fujii Sensei said during the seminar, his Aikido style is very close to Shihan Fujita style.
For the second time in Romania Shihan Fujii laid emphasis on tai sabaki, and basic techniques, all the practice having the same structure: a good warm up, Sotai dosa (or practicing the techniques form but without throwing or pinning), Yottsu no sabaki (practicing the four principals tai sabaki with a partner) and afterwards practicing the basic techniques like Ikkyo, Irimi nage, Kokyu nage or Shiho nage.
The training schedule was divided in beginner’s class, advanced and instructors so everybody can concentrate on their own practice. On the advanced class we practiced both basic techniques as advanced or applied techniques, or Oyou waza like Shihan Fujii used to tell us.
On the same period the second edition of the annual instructors` seminar was held at the same location. This seminar made it possible for us as instructors to standardize our Aikido fundamentals, practicing under Sensei Dorin Marchis (RAAF president/ technical director) and Sensei Iulian Perpelici (Preseident of the examination committee). An important moment at this seminar was when Sensei Dorin Marchis grated the Dojo license to all RAAF official dojos, in the presence of Shihan Koichi Fujii.
Saturday evening, like we use to was time for something special. We all watched together in premiere an interview of Dan Puric, who accepted to be on the list of honorary members of RAAF and who received the Annual RAAF Distinction.
Thank you Shihan Koichi Fujii for this great seminar, we all look forward to see you again in Romania practicing with us.
