Essay about Aikido-Written papers for the yudansha exam
Why aikido?
From the beginning I was intrigued and I liked the martial arts, so a series of circumstances have led me to a Dojo and Aikido and then I could not quit because I represent entirely. The beginning was a long exercise of patience and understanding of my own clumsiness, because it was another way of looking at things, another way how to move, to see what surrounded me, a different style about which I just heard, whose elegance was somewhat foreign to me. But little by little all the techniques which until then seemed just another kind of movement, a dance without specific applications of martial arts, began taking shape, substrate that they hide came easily to light. Besides the purely technical nature that Aikido has at first glance, there are spiritual aspect revealed only much later after the techniques are repeated hundreds of times, first with the mistakes of rigor, with awkwardness ,then, each one starts to have its proper meaning and the end is intertwined with the spiritual aspect, with the breathing and the technique becomes more powerful, more efficient and eventually we get to merge, to exist with it, to be one and the same, not beeing any difference between us.
As we go foreward we become more aware of the significance of aikido in our lives, the place they occupy, not only in the dojo, but also in everyday life. We try to use those learned in the dojo in and outside of it, we try to become better, more powerful, and more confident in us and those near us.
It's fairly easy to follow the Path when you train alongside others in the dojo, when everyone goes in the same direction. For me, one of the biggest test is the application of Aikido in daily life.
We can get stucked in our way, to meet obstacles, many questions and few answers, but the Path, Aikido, teaches us to be optimistic, good, in harmony with ourselves and what surrounds us, always look for the positive and have confidence that tomorrow will be better one day, that is up to us to have a better life, peace and harmony surrounds ourselves and we spread what we learned to those around us, to be a model for those who start the long journey of practicing Aikido, to try to improve ourselves every day and every workout.
